THE AGE OF DIGITAL LEARNING AND INTERDISCIPLINARITY

In 2018, the Innovation Department played a central role in a significant number of educational projects involving multiple stakeholders. Challenge inter-MS, Citylab, Project Management for students, short videos, the creation of an escape game for Alliance Week, C4B, new teaching and learning contexts, all these and more broadened the scope for contribution by educational technicians, who invested time and effort in some highly interdisciplinary initiatives designed both to improve the impact of the learning experience on students and facilitate it.

Season 1 for NMcube, a new media incubator

In 2018, the new media incubator set up by Audencia, the University of Nantes and the Ouest Médialab and Creative Factory clusters, NMcube saw through its first seven projects in the following fields: the creation of information media; the diversification of existing information media; startups; and solution or content providers.

NMcube receives financial support from the French Ministry of Culture as part of the Support Fund for Emergence and Innovation in the Press. Valérie Claude-Gaudillat, Director of the Innovation Department, adds: “Audencia drew on the expertise developed through the Centrale-Audencia-ensa Nantes incubator and the Médiacampus to support two projects in particular: Euradio – a community radio well known in Nantes for its handling of European issues – in the transformation of its economic model at a national level, with the development of new antennas and MusicData, a platform dedicated to popular contemporary music.”

The 2018 national PÉPITE-Tremplin award: success for two incubator businesses

The Pépite-Tremplin award for student entrepreneurship, organised by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESRI) and the Caisse des Dépôts public financial institution, rewards projects resulting in the creation of innovative companies by students or recent graduates. Of the 53 prize-winning projects nationally, seven were completed by student-entrepreneurs from the Brittany and Pays de la Loire regions, two of which – Naostage and Lunetik, by Audencia graduates – were supported by the Centrale-Audencia-ensa Nantes incubator.

Naostage: created by Paul Calès (Audencia GE 2018 and INSA Rennes 2018), Naostage aims to become an influential player in reshaping some of the techniques and practices of live entertainment and events through the design and development of innovative electronic and computer systems that will change the lives of technicians and increase the possibilities for artistic creativity. Naostage’s first achievement was an automatic light tracking system that gives a 3D view of a stage.

Lunetik: founded by Mathilde Abjean (an Audencia graduate who obtained a Bachelor’s degree in 2017 and holds an optician’s BTS diploma), is a web platform via which old glasses can be sold, unique and trendy refurbished glasses can be purchased at an affordable price, and any glasses can be revamped with new optical, plano or sun protection lenses.

Alliance Centrale-Audencia-ensa Nantes Teaching and Learning Day, Innovation Forum: points of view, discussion and awards

At a time when technology is taking centre stage, what place is there for human sciences in education? What is the risk of uberisation for the higher education sector? The first part of the alliance’s Teaching and Learning Day was hosted by Denis Jacquet, director of EduFactory, co-founder of the Uberisation Observatory and president of Mentoring Growth (Parrainer la Croissance). It provided him with an opportunity to share his beliefs about the development of learning and the need to maintain high standards in knowledge, analysis, critical thinking and reasoning. It also resulted in rewarding exchanges with the alliance educational community.

For the first time this year, the Audencia Innovation Forum was opened up to projects by Centrale Nantes or ensa as part of the alliance. The feedback from all participants was extremely positive and the Collaborative Innovation Award was awarded to Centrale Nantes’s “Book Dash” project. The Educational Innovation Award was presented to Anne Audran-Ly, Carole Le Rendu and Erika Logeais for their “Law/HR Challenge: L’affaire Baby Loup” and to Jean-Marc Charlot for “Culture Maker”. The Responsible Innovation Award went to Florence Touzé, Eliane Vacheret and Anne-Laure Guihéneuf for “CSR First Steps”. The Jury’s special mention was for Céline Bracq and her pro-cycling “Place au Vélo” project.

Moving towards even more inclusive teaching innovation

The Innovation Department devotes all its energy and the skills of its experts and educational technicians into putting forward innovative solutions for teaching staff, courses and the student experience; but the Department is just as reactive when it comes to finding, and where appropriate, designing and developing, ad hoc solutions and tools to meet specific needs.

“We really have entered the digital learning age, with video becoming increasingly predominant,” says Valérie Claude-Gaudillat, Director of the Innovation Department. “We have taken this on board by working with teachers, students, courses, educational technicians and support functions to develop our capacity to produce innovative tools in-house that facilitate learning and research methodology. Our goal for 2019 is to achieve innovative educational solutions that are even more inclusive, and to further reinforce our presence as a point of intersection for teachers, courses, companies and students to come together. This involves working groups and think tanks, making initiatives such as Happy Learning more accessible, working more with specialists in neuroscience, artificial intelligence, data learning, data analytics… In a nutshell, working more closely with EdTech.”
